Your background will definitely help; people who come from a strong welding/construction background such as yours typically make excellent divers. The commercial diving package courses at The Underwater Centre include underwater construction tools and skills training as standard throughout the HSE training, and you can also choose to do underwater welding, burning and inspection training, giving you experience in working with those tools in a subsea environment. The HSE certification is recognised internationally so you would be able to use it in Malaysia.
